The cultural landscape of Conca de Barberà bears witness to the interaction between people and the land throughout history, where natural elements such as mountains and rivers combine with the imprints of human activity, such as paths and farmhouses. This landscape remains fundamental to the area’s identity and is kept alive by the constant relationship between nature and its inhabitants.
The selected artists—Anna Noria, Nuria Albà, Ester Ramón, Nuria Rion, and Montserrat Pallarès—were chosen for their ability to capture the profound relationship between people and the landscape. Through their works, these artists provide a new perspective on the territory, linked to personal memory and everyday experiences. Women, historically linked to the land and agricultural tasks, have taken on a transformative role in the new rural world, with an innovative vision of landscape management and sustainability.
Anna Noria, through basketry, with her works Woven Territori teixit and Teixint territori, explores the relationship between people and dry land, symbolizing resistance and growth through the bramble. Nuria Albà, with Camins i Hàbitats, reflects on the symbiosis between nature and people, using paths as symbols of connection and habitat preservation. Meanwhile, Ester Ramón, with Fites, explores path signs as symbols of personal inquiry. Nuria Rion, through the Espaitemps series, treats them as paths of memory and identity. Finally, Montserrat Pallarès, with Recreo 11, its replicas and Just Sowing, uses childhood memories to create a unique vision of the landscape, highlighting the connection between nature, memory and the passage of time.
This group of artists invites us to reflect on how the landscape of Conca de Barberà is shaped by its physical elements and the imprints on collective memory. Their works recall the importance of preserving the relationship between people and the land for future generations and highlight the role of women as drivers of change and renewal in rural areas.
