Fundación Contemporánea has included Dones Artistes Rurals (DAR), an initiative of Tectónica Cultural, in the list ‘The best of culture in the rural environment’, for the second consecutive year. The organisation has presented the list ‘The best of culture 2023’ through its culture observatory, where the most relevant entities in the country have been highlighted through different rankings.

With the aim of providing visibility and recognition, Fundación Contemporánea has asked leading professionals in the field of culture for the best cultural projects developed in the rural environment. In the end, 63 proposals have been included, of which 31 are festivals, 17 are cultural and creative spaces and 9 are travelling programmes.

From DAR we are very grateful to be part of this prestigious list along with other great entities and initiatives of the sector. Clara Albacete, director of the project, emphasised that “it is necessary to make the work of cultural management professionals visible, as there is a wide variety of very interesting initiatives that should be known and, consequently, recognised and valued. In addition, this helps us to get to know other projects where we can weave networks of collaboration, which are very necessary and enriching on a personal and professional level”.

The main objective of the Observatorio de la Cultura is to give visibility to a very broad, high quality and constantly renewed cultural offer throughout the Spanish geography, providing the endorsement of the most prominent professionals in the sector. To carry out this consultation, a questionnaire was sent to a panel of more than a thousand cultural professionals, ranging from the heads of foundations to the directors of museums, theatres, cultural centres and institutions.

In the end, 414 members of the panel answered the survey, which represents a high level of social participation. Of the participants, 46.5% work in a public cultural organisation, 36.1% in a private one and the remaining 17.4% as independent professionals in the sector.

In addition to the category dedicated to the rural environment, the jury has also highlighted the most outstanding communities and cities for their cultural offer, the main cultural flagships, the best of digital culture and the most outstanding cultural novelties.
